Black Friday email for Shopify store owners: what to send and when (2026)

If you run a Shopify store, you have the products and the customer list already. What most owners lack is a simple answer to two questions: which emails to send, and on which days. Here is a plan that fits a small team, with a short example email you can adapt. Black Friday is November 27, 2026.

Start with what you can actually promise

Before you write anything, decide your offer, its start and end dates, and which products are included. Check that the discount is set up in your store the way the email will describe it, and that the stock behind it is real. An email that promises a deal the checkout does not apply is the fastest way to earn refund requests and unsubscribes.

The emails to send

For a small shop, four to six emails across the season is plenty. A reasonable shape:

  1. Early heads-up (about a week before). Tell people the dates and what is coming. Do not reveal everything; give them a reason to open the next one.
  2. Early access (Wednesday or Thursday, November 25 or 26). Send to subscribers and past buyers before the public sale. People on a list like feeling first.
  3. Black Friday launch (Friday, November 27, morning). The main offer, one clear button, the end date.
  4. Small Business Saturday (Saturday, November 28). A different angle: the people behind the shop, a thank-you, or a gift idea.
  5. Cyber Monday (Monday, November 30). Either an extension or a last call. Say which it is.
  6. Last-chance reminder (the final evening of the sale). Short, with the exact end time.

The full calendar is in our 2026 send schedule, and how many emails to send covers the unsubscribe trade-off.

Who gets which email

You do not need complicated segments. Three simple groups cover most shops:

If your email tool makes segments awkward, send one version to everyone and put the early-access email first for people who bought before. Simple and sent beats clever and late.

Build it from your own products

The strongest emails use your real product photos, real names and real prices. Pick one hero product, then three to six supporting items. Link each image to its product page, not the home page. Keep a single main button.

A short example email

This is a Black Friday launch email. Replace everything in braces, and only keep a line if it is true for your store.

Subject: Our Black Friday sale is live
Preview: {Offer}, through Monday night.

Hi {first name},

Our Black Friday sale starts now. Through {end date and time}, take {offer} on {products or collection}.

If you are not sure where to begin, our most-loved item is {best seller}. It is {one honest sentence about why people like it}.

Orders placed by {cutoff date} should arrive before {holiday}. After that we cannot promise delivery times, so we will say so plainly.

Mistakes to avoid

If you use Shopify Email

You can write these in Shopify Email or in another email tool connected to your store. The content matters more than the tool. Our Shopify Email template and the setup checklist walk through the build in general terms.
