Black Friday and holiday emails for soap, bath and body shops
Handmade soap and skincare make easy gifts: small, useful, and not too expensive. The challenge is that every maker has a few big sellers and a limited batch size. Your emails should tell the story of what you make and when it will run out.
Sell the gift set, not the single bar
A single bar of soap is a nice thing to own. A set of three in a box, with a bath bomb and a note card, is a gift. Black Friday is your chance to put your products into sets and show them that way. Name each set, list exactly what is inside, give the price and the savings over buying each item. A simple range, such as a small, a medium and a large set, helps people choose without thinking.
Tell the ingredient story, carefully
Your customers like to know what is in what they put on their skin. Say it plainly: “cold-process soap with olive oil, shea butter and a lavender essential oil.” Name where an ingredient comes from if it matters to you. Be careful with claims. Do not say a product treats, cures or heals a skin condition, and do not promise results you cannot prove. Describe what the product is and how it feels, and leave the medical language out. For scents, add a note for people who are sensitive to fragrance, and list common allergens such as nuts or essential oils.
Restocks and limited batches
Handmade goods sell out, and customers know it. Use that honestly. A “back in stock” email for your best-selling scent, or a note about a small seasonal batch, gives people a real reason to order now. Soap also needs time to cure, so be clear about what is ready to ship and what is a pre-order. If a scent is made once a year, say so and say how many you made, if you want to.
Ship-by dates
Give a plain last-order date for Christmas delivery, based on how fast you pack and how long your carrier usually takes. Say that carrier times can vary. If you offer gift wrap or a handwritten note, state the cutoff for those too. If you sell at craft fairs or have a pickup spot, include the dates and addresses.
The five emails
- Gift sets preview and early access (the week before). Show the sets, the scents, and the early access time for your list.
- Black Friday: one offer. A set discount, free shipping over a set amount, or a free mini with an order. State the dates and any quantity limits.
- Small Business Saturday: how it is made. A short story of your studio, a photo of the work table, and a thank-you. If you have a shop or market stall, give the hours. Examples.
- Cyber Monday: restock and last chance. Which items are back, which are nearly gone, and when the offer ends.
- Ship-by and gift card email (early to mid December). Last order dates, gift wrap cutoff, and an instant digital gift card for last-minute buyers. Last-day template.
What to put in a soap and body shop’s emails
- Real photos, in good light, of the products and the sets in their boxes.
- Ingredients and scents, in a short plain list, with allergy notes.
- Sizes and weights, such as “each bar is about four ounces.”
- Shipping and gift options, with the dates.
- Returns, kept simple. Many makers do not take back opened bath and body items, so say what your policy is.
