Black Friday and holiday emails for baby and kids boutiques

In a baby and kids boutique, the person reading your email is rarely the person who will use the product. Parents buy for themselves, grandparents buy for the baby, and friends buy for a shower. Each needs something different from you.

Write to three readers

Parents want practical things, clear sizes and a fair price. Grandparents and relatives want a gift that feels special and arrives wrapped. Friends of new parents want something small and safe to give. You cannot write one email that does all of this, but you can give each group its own section: a wish-list section for parents, a gift-ideas section by age, and a gift card for anyone unsure.

Gift registries

If you offer a registry or a wish list, Black Friday is a good time to remind people about it. Parents expecting a baby can create one, and relatives can buy from it. Explain how it works in two or three lines: how to start one, how to share it, and whether you offer a completion discount. If you do not have a registry, a “wish list” button on your product pages does much of the same job, and your email can encourage parents to send their lists to family.

Milestone gifts

Babies and kids grow in recognizable steps: a first Christmas, a first birthday, a first day of school. Gifts tied to these moments are easy to write about and easy to buy. Group items by milestone, such as “first Christmas” or “new baby,” and show a short list at a few price points. Personalized items, such as a stocking or a blanket with a name, need earlier deadlines, so state the last order date clearly.

Size guidance

Sizing is where baby and kids shops win trust. Babies grow quickly, and a gift in the wrong size is wasted. Add a short size note to the email: how your sizes map to age, whether pieces run large or small, and a suggestion to buy one size up for a winter gift. Do not promise that a size will fit a given child, since children vary. Say what your exchange policy is for gifts, so a relative can buy with confidence. For toys, state the recommended age as given by the maker, and never suggest a product is safe for younger children than the maker says.

The five emails

  1. Parents’ wish list and early access (the week before). Tell parents to build their wish list or registry, and give your list a first look at the offers.
  2. Black Friday: one offer. A sitewide discount, a bundle or a free gift item with a set order amount. Name the dates and limits.
  3. Small Business Saturday: milestone gifts and a shop visit. Invite families in, mention any story time or kids’ table you host, and show gifts by age. Examples.
  4. Cyber Monday: size guide and last chance. The final day of the offer, a short sizing note, and the best-selling items still in stock.
  5. Gift guide by age and last-day-to-ship (early to mid December). Newborn, one year, toddler, school age; the last order date, personalization cutoff, and gift cards. Last-day template.
