Black Friday email ideas for small shops

You don’t need a 40% off banner to have a good Black Friday. You need a clear reason to open, one thing to click, and a send schedule you can keep. Here are twelve ideas that work for independent shops, in the order we’d send them.

The 2026 send calendar

Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, so Black Friday lands on November 27, Small Business Saturday on November 28, Cyber Monday on November 30 and Giving Tuesday on December 1. A simple calendar for a small list:

WhenWhat happensWhat to send
Mon Nov 16 – Wed Nov 18Warm-up weekEarly access email to your list: a heads-up and a reason to open on Friday
Thu Nov 26ThanksgivingShort and warm; at most one send, many shops skip the day
Fri Nov 27Black FridayThe main offer, plus a reminder that evening
Sat Nov 28Small Business SaturdayThe “shop local” story and your best sellers
Mon Nov 30Cyber MondayLast chance on the offer, online-only angle
Tue Dec 1Giving TuesdayOptional: thank-you, or a cause your shop supports

Twelve ideas, in send order

1. The early access email (the week before)

Tell your list the sale is coming and give them first pick: “Subscribers shop Thursday night, everyone else Friday.” It earns a reason to open before the inbox gets crowded, and it’s the easiest email to write because it needs no product photography, just a date and a promise.

2. The “what’s in the sale” preview

Show three to six products with the discount already applied. People decide what they’re shopping for before they open the site. A preview makes the Friday email feel like a reminder instead of an ambush.

3. The doorbuster

One product, one price, limited quantity. Pick something people already want and that you can honestly sell at a thin margin, and say how many you have. A real limit is more believable than a fake countdown.

4. The bundle

If you don’t want to discount everything, bundle: “Any three candles for $54.” Bundles raise the order total instead of lowering your price, and they are an easy gift answer.

5. The free-gift-with-purchase

A small thing that costs you little (a sample, a sticker, a wrapped extra) can beat a discount of the same cost, and it gives you something concrete to photograph.

6. The Black Friday main send

Put the offer in the first line, the dates in the second, and one button. Lead with your best-selling category, not your whole catalog. Resend to people who didn’t open it that evening with a new subject line.

7. The “we’re open, here’s how to shop” email

If you have a physical shop, tell people your hours, parking and what’s in the window. For online-only shops, say what ships when. Practical beats clever.

8. The Small Business Saturday story

Saturday is the one day your customers actively want to hear who you are. Tell them one true thing about the shop and one thing you’re proud of, then show your best sellers. See our Small Business Saturday email examples.

9. The Cyber Monday last chance

Say plainly that the offer ends tonight. Don’t reinvent the sale on Monday; remind people it’s ending and show the three things that sold best over the weekend.

10. The gift guide

Group by person (“for the cook,” “for the kid who has everything”) and by price. Gift guides are also the email people save and come back to.

11. The last day to ship

It’s a send with real urgency, and shoppers often act on it the same day. Use your own carrier’s published dates and put the deadline in the subject line. We wrote a last-day-to-ship email template you can copy.

12. The thank-you

After the rush, a short note thanking people, with no sale in it. It costs nothing and it’s the email that gets replies.

Subject lines you can copy

Keep it small. If you only have time for three emails, send early access, Black Friday and the Cyber Monday last chance. Three well-timed emails beat eight rushed ones.

We also put a ready-made set of templates in the free Small Business Saturday email kit.
