Black Friday and holiday emails for jewelry boutiques
Jewelry is a gift people are nervous about getting wrong. Size, metal, style and taste are all in play, and the person buying is often not the person wearing it. Your holiday emails work when they remove that worry and keep the price in plain sight.
Answer the three fears of a jewelry gift buyer
Almost every hesitation in a jewelry sale comes down to one of three questions: “Will she like it?”, “Will it fit?” and “Will it arrive in time?” Put an answer to each in your emails, not buried on a policy page.
- Will she like it? Lead with pieces that are easy to love: studs, simple chains, a name or initial necklace, a birthstone piece. Say what each piece goes with.
- Will it fit? For rings and bracelets, link a sizing guide and state your exchange policy. “Free first exchange if the ring doesn’t fit” is a strong line if it is true for your shop. Necklaces and earrings are safer picks for uncertain buyers, so say so.
- Will it arrive in time? Made-to-order and personalized pieces need earlier cutoffs than ready-to-ship pieces. Give each its own date.
Organize by budget, not by metal
Shoppers decide how much they will spend before they decide what to buy. A gift guide with sections like “under $50,” “$50 to $150” and “a piece she’ll keep” gets used. A page sorted by gemstone or collection name is for people who already know your catalog.
The five emails
- Early access (the week before Black Friday). Show the holiday pieces and tell your list which items are limited. For handmade or small-batch jewelry, say how many of each piece you made. Say the personalized-order deadline now so people aren’t surprised later.
- Black Friday: one offer and a gift with purchase. Strong options for a jewelry boutique are a set amount off a second piece, a free gift box and note with every order, or a free pair of simple earrings above a spend threshold. Consider keeping fine or higher-priced pieces out of the sale and discounting a selected group instead.
- Small Business Saturday: the person who made it. Who designs the pieces, where they are made, what materials you use. Jewelry buyers like knowing the story behind a piece. A close-up photo of your bench beats a stock image. Examples.
- The gift guide by budget (early December). Under $50, under $100, a splurge, and “for the one who says she doesn’t want anything.” Add a line on sizing and a link to gift cards.
- Last day to order, then gift cards and pickup. One email that gives separate dates for personalized, ready-to-ship and gift card orders, then offers local pickup. Last-day-to-ship template.
What to put in a jewelry email
- Price next to every piece. Hiding it makes people leave.
- Materials stated plainly: sterling silver, gold-filled, solid gold, plated, natural stone or lab-created. Only say what you can back up.
- Skin-sensitivity information if you offer hypoallergenic metals, since many shoppers search for it.
- Packaging: show the gift box and what comes in it.
- Photos on a person, so shoppers see scale.
- Care, in one sentence, in your order confirmation rather than in every marketing email.
Do not forget the “forward to a loved one” shopper
Many jewelry purchases are made by someone whose partner or family member has dropped hints. A line like “Want to leave a hint? Reply to this email with a wish list link and we’ll save it” gives them a reason to talk to you, and gives you a name for next year’s birthday email.
